Taromancy: It is the most common and popular way to predict future. It is easy too and everyone use this way, you don’t have to have special traits all you need is the willingness to honor and develop your natural intuition. It only requires a tarot deck. Tarot deck is a deck of 78 picture cards that has been used for centuries to reveal hidden truths. In the past few years, interest in the tarot has grown tremendously. More and more people are seeking ways to blend inner and outer realities so they can live their lives more creatively. They have discovered in the tarot a powerful tool for personal growth and insight. The tarot can help you understand yourself better and teach you how to tap your inner resources more confidently.

The origin of the tarot is a mystery. We do know for sure that the cards were used in Italy in the fifteenth century as a popular card game. Wealthy patrons commissioned beautiful decks, some of which have survived. The Visconti-Sforza, created in 1450 or shortly thereafter, is one of the earliest and most complete.

Later in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the cards were discovered by a number of influential scholars of the occult. These gentleman were fascinated by the tarot and recognized that the images on the cards were more powerful than a simple game would suggest.They revealed (or created!) the “true” history of the tarot by connecting the cards to Egyptian mysteries, Hermetic philosophy, the Kabbalah, alchemy, and other mystical systems.

The tarot is most commonly viewed as a tool for divination. A traditional tarot reading involves a seeker – someone who is looking for answers to personal questions – and a reader – someone who knows how to interpret the cards. After the seeker has shuffled and cut the deck, the reader lays out the chosen cards in a pattern called a spread. Each position in the spread has a meaning, and each card has a meaning as well. The reader combines these two meanings to shed light on the seeker’s question.

Have you ever wanted to visit a fortuneteller and wondered if she was legit or fake? It is like any other profession. Some are better than others are. Some are real and some will scam you, just like the other profession. All you need do is make a little research and once you find that person then you need to cooperate. The skinny man dressed all in black did not fit my view of what a fortuneteller should look like. He chain-smoked all through the session too.

I left frustrated at the reading. He’d told me I’d find love despite the wedding ring on my hand. There was also mention of returning to school to get a job, but I already had my degree and a job. More than a year later, I was out of work and divorced. I did have to go back to school and eventually fell in love. The fortune I dismissed was actually mine.

Recently, I visited a psyche in a resort town not expecting too much.  I’d get as much use out of the visit as the fudge sold at the half dozen stores surrounding her.  As usual, I didn’t give any clues or hints to assist the reading, but I did shuffle the cards leaving my essence on them.

I sat in amazement as I heard my current life told from my children, marriages, career choices and health. The psychic even told me the entire plot of a book that was only in the concept stage. As for the questions I had, she answered them too.

Some people put out glowing palm signs to make money, but have no real talent. How do you differentiate between authentic and posers? Your less talented individuals will look for outward signs. One palm reader told my husband that he was very athletic and played football as a kid based on his current build.  Actually, he never played football. This type of comment would be spot on for about 65% of the male population. Your own intuition will assist you. If you’re ill at ease, don’t do it. If the reader tries to coerce you into a visit, move on and find someone else. A truly talented individual already knows if you’re coming in.  Recommendations are always a good way to pick a reader. People will talk about a reader whose predictions proved true.

The majority of the fortunetellers are gifted.  They want to use their talent to help others.    If information in the reading upsets you, you’re free to reject it.  Often armed with foreknowledge you can change your present and your future. How you choose to react to reading is your choice.

Omens 

Whether we know it or not, we all use omens.   Often, things that used to be deeply significant omens remain with us as superstitions. Black cats (or white ones depending on your culture) crossing your path as a sign of bad luck, feathers where they shouldn’t be as a message from your angels. There is also the one about black cockatoos signifying either days of rain or days till rain. Omens will often be most significant to you based on culture. Another would be one from a tribe of the aborigines where when a willy wag its tails at you is the same as someone pointing a bone at you which is equivalent to an ill omen.  

Runes 

This is a method not to mess around with. Runes are serious business. These are one of the few methods of fortune telling you don’t muck around with if you do not know your way around it. I do think they cross the line from simple fortune telling into outright divination. The difference being that you do tap into something outside yourself when you use runes.  It’s best to take your study of runes very seriously. Make sure when you use them you do so with the clearest of intentions and make sure you’ve learned how to protect yourself with psychic shields. That said, they are incredibly accurate. They will tell you about some of the hardest lessons you have to learn. You must be prepared to grow as a person when you use Runes. Runes simply won’t accept less than the very best of yourself.

Geomancy

This method involves closing your eyes and randomly making eight sets of lines with dashes. What you end up with, when done correctly is two of the geomantic figures with cool names like Cauda draconis and Albus. Geomancy is a very deep and very ancient study that is well worth the time. The first method mentioned here is probably the simplest for easy fortune telling, but for deeper readings there are many ways to generate the figures with this method.

I Ching or Book of Changes

This is a method that points to ancient Chinese who have spent their whole lives studying the I Ching and who still find mysteries within mysteries. The Book of Changes answers questions by being so convoluted that you spend so much time trying to figure out how the answer applies to the question you’ve asked that you end up answering it yourself just to make it all fit. Of all the fortune telling methods it probably has the longest unbroken history going back some 5000 years. And make no mistake it has worked for all that time. It might be safe to say that the I Ching is not something you just dabble in. It’s a life long study. It deserves it’s place as one of the best methods of fortune telling on any list.

Oneiromancy

The fine art of dream interpretation. Dreams can and are many things all at once. They can be predictive but they are also our brains processing information, or trying out different scenarios to see how we will react, or simply noise from the day that won’t shut off even in your sleep. The trouble is telling which is what. Dream journals are invaluable but who has time to keep one? You have to write them as soon as you wake up or they just don’t stick around long enough. It is not unheard of that some people will record their dreams by speaking into a voice recorder, before the memory of it can fade away.  There are some universal symbols like a building being yourself and a car or journey representing your life, but nothing about dream interpretation is set in stone. You’ll dream far more often than usual about driving if you are a race car driver or simply drive for a living than if you are a stay at home person.

Scrying

This is the method that seems to scare most people, according to experienced psychis. Maybe it’s the strange trance like state you have to be in to see anything, maybe it’s just the nature of seeing things in flame or water or clouds or whichever you choose as your scrying medium. When people think gypsy fortune tellers looking into a crystal ball they are thinking about scrying. It’s hard to do because Scrying works by opening up your mind so make sure you’ve learnt how to ground and protect yourself before you try it. Alas, there’s no other way to learn than by just doing it – practice, invoke your inner spirit and energy.   There’s no books, or list of interpretations. It’s just you and your ability to trust yourself. In some ways it’s the scariest of fortune telling methods because the catch is that you have to have people to practice on but you can’t practice till you have some idea of what you are doing.  It is suggested that beginner can start with flames. A night camping sets the right mood and the camp fire is the best place to start.

Palmistry

This is probably one of the most popular methods.  Even the biggest sceptic will often thrust their hand at you with a challenge “Go on then, read mine,” It works. Always read a person’s dominant hand – that’s the one they write with. Their non dominant hand is ‘what they were born with’ and their dominant one is ‘what they’ve made of what they were born with’. Contrary to popular belief, palms do change. Try photocopying your hand once a year to see how much you’ve changed. Which lines have gotten stronger and which have started to fade. Read lots of different books on the subject because not one palmist has all the answers.   It is not a method that tells when someone going to die when people ask you.

Astrology

Everyone knows their star sign even if they know nothing else about anything remotely new age or paranormal or occult. Some of us aren’t 100% sure because of being born on a cusp. No you can’t be half Gemini half Taurus if you were born on a cusp because the Sun was either in one sign or the other. You’d need to check an ephemeris to be sure. What most people don’t realise is that our sun sign is just a small fraction of what we are. It might be the way that other people see you but the reality is that we all have every planet in our charts at some point. It’s the combination of those that make us who we are. Other people often see us as our sun sign but our moon sign is the next most powerful thing closely followed by our ascendant (what sign was rising over the horizon when we were born). Those of us that don’t think we fit the typical image of our sun sign often have very different moon sign and ascendants. I’ll admit that I have only scraped the surface of studying astrology. I got to the bit where there was a lot of maths and sort of shelved it for a later that hasn’t come yet. Suffice it to say, there was a good reason why the ancients considered their astrologers the scientists of their day.

Cartomancy

Cartomancy is reading fortunes with a deck of cards. Like palmistry, this is also a method popular to clients.  That’s any sort of cards, be they tarot or oracle or playing cards. It is recommended because there is a loose framework of rules plenty of wiggle room within that framework.  Tarot cards come highly recommended, too, because of the art work.  It is easy to bounce off that art and let your senses soar with what the art tells you. Tarot is the most famous of course, but other decks exist. Quite a lot of psychics go very well with Doreen Virtues decks. Some experts think that’s because her decks are so soft and lovely that it makes it easier for the querent to be receptive to what the psychic is saying.

Tasseography 

This method uses Tea Leaves or Coffee Grounds.  Experts say that this is a method that works best when passed down through family generations. It would be hard to write a book about what those wet sploges actually mean because what looks like a baseball bat to you might be a club to someone else. It’s highly interpretative. But like most fortune telling methods the only way to get good at it is to practice, write it down and keep on practicing.  Some experts in the field would say it is one of the most fun methods because of course it involves sitting down for a lovely cup of tea or nice coffee. It is also suggested that this method works more for the highly psychic who just need to be looking at something in order to access that ability.

If you are already starting out, there would definitely be methods you will you are most comfortable with and your energy is most receptive to.  This isn’t exactly a fad so there is no need to jump from one method to another because it is the most ‘popular one’.  Find where you ability works best with.  Good luck!

I have dependably been exceptionally inquisitive about fortune telling, and I have spent a fortune on having readings myself, throughout the years! It jumped out at me to solicit the blessed messengers what they think from it and whether they think it works.

I am curious. Does fortune telling actually work? Can people predict other people’s futures? Is it ever really helpful? If it does work, which kind is best? Tarot? Palmistry? Tea leaves? And how do you know if the fortune teller that you go to is any good?

Dearest one, there are several answers to your questions! Firstly, does fortune telling work?
At times, yes it does. At times, one person will be able to accurately predict what will happen to another person. And at other times, the predictions that are made might not ‘come true’ or may happen in ways that have not been predicted. And so, you might well ask in what circumstances does fortune telling work and in what circumstances does it not?

The truth is that you are constantly shifting and changing what ‘happens’ to you. The things that appear in your ‘future’ today may not actually happen. You may change something in your own approach to your life, or in your belief system or in your energy field that results in a different outcome to the one that has been predicted.
You may decide that the outcome is not one that you would like to experience, and you might make changes that prevent it from happening.

It is a very interesting question, this one of ‘fortune –telling’ and not only whether it is accurate but also whether it is useful.

Some of you have made decisions before you came into your physical bodies, decisions about events and circumstances that you will definitely experience, and that you have incorporated into the overall ‘plan’ for your life. You may have decided to experience success in a certain field, such as the performing arts or politics or working in the media, and this success might seem to just ‘fall into place’ for you, without any apparent struggle or concern on your part. When you have a strongly held choice of life path, it can be easy for a person who has developed his or her intuitive skills to ‘read’ this about you. It is as if you are wearing this energy in your field. Some of you wear the energy of prosperity, some of fame, some of caring for children, or love of nature. When you come to experience the pure energy of your soul and it’s consciousness you will know that it is always at ease and at peace. When your mind is not at peace, you know that you are not experiencing the pure energy of your soul, so in fact these unpleasant feelings act as an excellent barometer of your level of consciousness. And so to answer your question about whether fortune tellers can be useful, the answer is yes, they can. They can help you to see what is happening in your own unconscious mind and how it might be influencing what is happening in your life. If your fortune teller predicts something that delights you and pleases you, this can help you to move in the direction of creating this event or situation that brings you a joyful feeling. The only thing to remember in this situation is not to be discouraged if the happy event does not happen as quickly or in the same way that it has been predicted! We have seen people become despondent when the handsome stranger or the wonderful new job does not materialise exactly as they have been told it will, and they have become ‘down-hearted- and disappointed as a result. In these situations it is important to keep creating the event in your imagination, feeling the feelings that you associate with it and watching out for any limiting beliefs or behaviours that are holding you back from the experience that you desire to create.

In answer to your final question about which kind of fortune-teller to use, we would strongly suggest that you use your own inner compass to guide you in the direction of the one who is right for you. Any and all of the techniques that are commonly used can be useful, for they are merely tools, it is the intention and the intuitive skills of the fortune-teller that are important!

As you consider the person, whether you are looking at them in the flesh, or merely looking at their advertisement, see if you get a feeling from them. Generally you will get a strongly uplifting feeling if the person is right for you and can be helpful to you. If you get no feeling at all, it may be neither the right time nor the right person for you to consult. If you get a feeling of your energy being lowered, or a feeling of fearfulness or sadness or anxiety we would likewise suggest that this person is not going to be helpful to you at this time. Even if the fortune teller needs to bring you some ‘bad’ news in order to help you to resolve something, the feeling that you get from the person will always be an uplifting feeling, and this is your own soul’s way of guiding you to make the choices that can most benefit you on your path. Fortune telling is normally associated with Tarot Cards, however, experts in the field say one can also fortune tell with the use of ordinary playing cards.  Fortune telling or foreseeing the future of a person’s life and sometimes the past comes along with it, too – in the modern world, performing future telling with a deck of ordinary playing cards has become popular.

Numerology, phrenology & palmistry

Many believe that a person’s name (or even how many letters are in a name) give important clues to what their future will hold. One form of divination held that bumps on the skull could accurately predict not only a person’s personality but indeed their future. This “science” of phrenology was not a weird, fringe belief but instead wildly popular even among well-educated Americans and Europeans in the 1800s.

There are many hundreds of long-discredited (and self-evidently absurd) fortune-telling methods. Many equally unlikely techniques are practiced today, including numerology, reading tea leaves, consulting tarot cards, and examining the lines on a person’s palm.

Dream interpretation

For millennia, dreams have universally been considered a fortune-telling tool, and there is a thriving cottage industry of books, DVDs and fortune-tellers who claim to divine your future by interpreting your dreams. For example, dreaming about an attic means that you will renew an important friendship, and dreaming about walnuts indicates that losses and financial ruin are in store. (If you repeatedly dream about eating walnuts in an attic with an important friend while you lose money, you may want to seek therapy.)

The psychology of fortune-telling

Whatever form the fortune-telling takes, the basic process is the same: seeking meaning in random patterns and phenomenon. Some essentially random event is observed in nature (animal sounds are created, dreams are recorded) or caused to happen (tea leaves are stirred, cards are shuffled), and people closely examines the results trying to make meaning or sense of them. The human brain is very good at finding (or creating) meaning even when there is none, such as in random patterns. That’s why people see faces and other images in clouds, Rorschach blots, and coffee stains. This phenomenon, called pareidolia, is well known in psychology.

Validity of fortune-telling

Do any of these fortune-telling tools work? Unfortunately not, and it’s not a difficult question to test. Fortune-tellers failed to predict the September 11, 2001, attacks, the recent global economic collapse, the 2011 Japanese tsunami and nuclear meltdown, and countless other important world events that would have saved innocent lives if they’d been accurately predicted.

The most obvious problem is that different fortune-telling methods discredit each other (and themselves) by giving inconsistent and contradictory predictions. Not only do answers vary between methods, but they even vary between consultations of the same signs. Two tarot card or tea leaf readings minutes apart with the same person asking the exact same question about the future should come up with the same answer, but they don’t.

Let’s say, for example, that someone wants to know if they will move to Paris in the next 10 years, or whether the current president will be re-elected next term. If any of these fortune-telling methods worked, they should all give the same answer; it shouldn’t matter whether you ask a psychic, read tarot cards, or sprinkle a handful of flower petals on the ground and look for guidance. The answers should all be the same, since either you will or will not move to Paris, and the president either will or will not be re-elected. Instead, the answers are often no better than chance (which, in these examples, is 50/50 anyway). This is the same reason that a person can consult 10 different psychics and get 10 different answers about the future. If these fortune-telling methods are so fallible and fickle, why use them at all?

It also raises another question: If any of the methods really worked, why would there be so many? Why not stick with a proven, reliable method instead of devising literally hundreds of other fortune-telling tools? If reading tea leaves was scientifically proven to be a more accurate way to predict the future than, say, gazing at crystals or consulting the tarot, then people would naturally use the method that works. Instead, all fortune-telling methods are equally valid (or invalid) because they are all based on the same faulty premise, that reading meaning into random phenomena predicts destiny.

Even many books devoted to fortune-telling admit that the techniques are unreliable; a “Note to the Reader” prefacing “The Complete Book of Fortune” reads, “When seeking to know your Fortune by any method of divination, the results obtained must be regarded as an indication of what may happen, and must not be accepted as conclusive evidence of what will happen.”

Free will vs. determinism

Many people who believe in fortune-telling don’t realize that if they are right, they have answered one of the fundamental questions in philosophy, that of free will vs. determinism. Most people would prefer to believe that they control their own actions and make their own decisions in life; but anyone’s ability to know the future proves them wrong. Either there is “a future” to know (or at least glimpse knowledge of) — and therefore our future is predetermined, or the future is unknowable and uncertain. Logically, you can’t control your own destiny if the future is knowable.

One doesn’t need to consult a psychic or fortune-teller to come up with a possible, potential vision of something that might or might not happen. Anyone can do that; if you want to know if something good or bad could possibly happen to you — from meeting a tall dark stranger to being killed in a plane crash to winning the lottery — the answer is always yes. If you want to know whether these things will happen to you, the future — as always — remains uncertain.

Individuals ask psychic when they have inconveniences in life. Despite the fact that there are terrible psychics who hunger their cash, customers go out on a limb and proceed with their adventure.
